The introduction of Alexi Laiho, known for his work with Children of Bodom, brought a more polished and melodic edge to Impaled Nazarene on their Nihil album. While still retaining their trademark brutality, the band showed signs of a stylistic shift with greater attention to song structures.

In "Absence Of War Does Not Mean Peace," thrashy riffs and melodic elements further emphasized this evolution, though their roots were never forgotten. The album's production provided a powerful backdrop for the music, enhancing the relevance of each instrument. The melodies in the riffs added a catchy dimension to the generally fast-paced tempo.

Impaled Nazarene continued to infuse their punk-style aggression with melody on tracks like "Prequel to Bleeding (Angels III)" and "Hardboiled and Still Hellbound." The addition of power-metal-inspired lead guitar lines was a novel development for the band, contributing to the album's entertainment value.

The drumming on this album stood out, with a relentless pace and precision. "Humble Fuck of Death" harkened back to the band's earlier, faster style, while "Via Dolorosa" took a more hard rock approach. "Nyrkillä tapettava huora" delved into black metal territory with its speed and brutality.

The introduction of mid-paced tracks like "Never Forgive" showcased keyboard elements that added a mystic and dark atmosphere. "Satan Wants You Dead" provided a short burst of blast beats, and "The Madness Behind" slowed the tempo, focusing on guitar work and creating an obscure ambiance.

Impaled Nazarene's evolution, with a heightened emphasis on melody, may divide their fanbase, but the album remains a strong effort. While it departs from the raw brutality of their early works, it maintains a fast-paced intensity with newfound melodic elements.
