New Jersey thrash metal band Overkill formed in 1984, taking their name from a Motörhead album. As one of the first thrash acts to secure a major label deal, Overkill began gaining popularity in the late '80s alongside heavyweights like Anthrax, Exodus, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Testament. Taking Over, their second studio album released in 1987, was their first on Atlantic Records and would be the last to feature founding drummer Rat Skates. His departure marked the end of an era for the band, yet Taking Over still stands as a classic. The track "Wrecking Crew" became a signature anthem, later inspiring the name of their official website, wreckingcrew.com. Fan favorites "Wrecking Crew" and "In Union We Stand" continue to hold a place of honor in Overkill’s live shows, underscoring their legacy as thrash pioneers.
