Originally released in the spring of 1998 on the pivotal No Fashion label, DARK FUNERAL's second album Vobiscum Satanas consolidated the strengths of their classic debut The Secrets of the Black Arts—blistering speed, razor-sharp execution, hauntingly memorable melodies, and an abundance of icy atmosphere—while making the overall attack even tighter and more concise. The production, once again handled by Peter Tägtgren at Abyss Studios, sharpened these qualities to perfection, bringing every nuance to the forefront. For this reason, many regard Vobiscum Satanas as the equal of The Secrets of the Black Arts. In any case, it was through this pair of albums that DARK FUNERAL firmly secured their place among the premier black metal bands of the late ’90s.
