GENOCIDE SUPERSTARS - We Are Born Of Hate (Deluxe CD)
Sweden | Hardcore/Punk/Rock
Detailed Description
Subtitled "Welcome To Motorcycle Hell," this disc contains 17 thrashing crust-punk odes to violence and warfare, with occasional mention of drinking, women, and (of course) motorcycles. It's all very over-the-top, and the lyrics - for example, "I'll beat you 'till you're dead/I'll kick your teeth/I'll break your bones/I'll break your f*cking neck" - are clearly not meant to be taken literally (nor are they especially witty, but then again, that's not the point either). The tracks move along at fast, Mot-rhead-like tempos and are mostly short and to-the-point, dominated by scream-and-shout vocals and simple, rough-edged guitar work. The album's strong points are the full-sounding, bleeding-into-the-red production and the consistently energetic performances; the album was recorded in a mere 13 hours and there is definitely a spontaneous feel at work. The downside is that the band tends to get by on attitude and energy more than on the strength of any songwriting, but while some of the material is forgettable, there are still some real keepers, notably "Blackout" and the politely named "Be My Bitch." Another highlight is the gloomy, militaristic take on Joy Division's "They Walked in Line." Basically, this music is all about spewing rage and exorcising drunken demons, yet ultimately it's done in the name of fun, making this an enjoyable, if not essential, punk crust rock album. Featuring Mieszko Talarczyk of Nasum fame.
