'Critical Madness: The Demo Years' compiles the earliest works of the kings of sickness, Autopsy, showcasing their formative years. Leading with their first demo from 1987 and the legendary 'Critical Madness' demo from 1988, which secured their deal with Peaceville Records and led to the release of their genre-defining debut, 'Severed Survival,' in 1989. This collection includes the rare track 'Christ Denied' and raw rehearsal recordings from 1987-88, featuring material that would later appear on their studio debut.
Autopsy, one of the early pioneers of US Death Metal, formed in 1987 in San Francisco by former Death drummer Chris Reifert. They released four albums on Peaceville Records, including the iconic 'Severed Survival' and 'Mental Funeral.' After disbanding in 1995 and members forming Abscess, Autopsy made a triumphant return with the 2010 EP 'The Tomb Within' and followed with their fifth studio album, 'Macabre Eternal,' in 2011. Celebrating their 30th anniversary, they remain at the top of the Death Metal scene, recently releasing the brutal 'Puncturing the Grotesque.'
