High Roller Records' reissue of "Eternal Devastation" ensures a well-deserved revisit of this classic album, complete with printed lyrics and nostalgic photographs, along with a poster of the iconic cover art.

"Eternal Devastation," Destruction's second full-length album released in 1986, marked a notable shift for the band. Departing from their earlier black metal influences, they embraced a more refined thrash metal sound. According to Schmier, this evolution was a natural progression driven by the creative flow rather than a deliberate choice.

The album's recording took place in a small studio in Hilpoltstein, Bavaria, during April 1986. Despite the humble surroundings, the album received positive reviews and solidified Destruction's presence in the European market. This period also witnessed the band's first lineup changes, with drummer Tommy leaving the group.

"Eternal Devastation" remains a pivotal release in Destruction's discography, hailed for its innovative guitar work by Mike Sifringer and Schmier's distinct vocal style. The lyrics delved into serious themes, moving beyond mere anti-religious sentiments to address broader social issues, making it a more mature and artistic endeavor.

The album's sharp, abrasive sound was deliberate, aiming for an aggressive yet clear guitar tone. This contributed to its unique character, establishing it as a hallmark of the band's style.

Overall, "Eternal Devastation" encapsulated the spirit of the mid-1980s metal scene, reflecting the youthful rebellion and pioneering ethos of that era. Schmier acknowledges that it was a statement against the prevailing commercial music scene, showcasing their unwavering commitment to thrash metal.

Sebastian Kruger, the artist behind the album's cover, executed the band's concept exceptionally well. The tour following the album's release, alongside Kreator and Rage, forged lasting friendships among the bands and provided memorable experiences.
