Detailed Description

Newly mastered from the original tapes and officially licensed from Sony/BMG. Presented in a mini-LP replica jacket, housed in a re-sealable PVC outer sleeve.

The essential 1971 debut album from psychedelic visionary Armando Nava and his band, Los Dug Dug’s—widely regarded as the first Mexican psych rock record sung entirely in English. Born from heartbreak and disillusionment following a failed attempt to break into the New York music scene, the album channels raw emotion into a brilliant collection of fuzzed-out, mind-expanding rock songs.

Los Dug Dug’s got their start as the house band at the Tijuana strip club Fantasitas before relocating to Mexico City in 1966, where they quickly built a devoted fanbase. Their growing popularity led to a deal with RCA Records and appearances in the cult films El Mundo Loco de los Jovenes and Cinco de Chocolate y Una de Fresa in 1967. After a brief return to Tijuana in 1968 and a residency at the Sans Sous Ci club, an American tourist—blown away by their sound—sponsored their trip to New York City. But the dream was cut short: unable to afford union dues required to perform in major venues, the band returned to Mexico, disillusioned but determined.

Fueled by that experience, they began recording their debut for RCA Mexico. The result is a searing, kaleidoscopic album filled with psychedelic riffs, heavy grooves, and an undercurrent of melancholy. Internal tensions between Nava and bassist Jorge de la Torre led to the latter’s departure soon after recording, effectively dissolving the original lineup just as the album was released.

What remains is a timeless psych rock statement—wild, urgent, and deeply atmospheric, like flower children hallucinating in the heat of a Mexican summer.
