Canada's GORGUTS were formed in 1989, gaining much fame within the tape trading circuits of the up'n'coming death metal scene. Two classic albums with "Considered Dead" ('91) and "The Erosion of Sanity" ('93) followed via Roadrunner Records. Afterwards the band switched over to Olympic Recordings and developed a unique technical style fusing death metal's intensity and brutality with atmospheric and atonal elements resulting in massive global acclaim, especially for "Obscura" whose original pressing CDs nowadays sell online for an average price of 50€. After 2001's "From Wisdom To Hate", which continued the direction started with "Obscura", GORGUTS went on hiatus in 2005 following the suicide of drummer Steve MacDonald. However, GORGUTS' will and determination even survived this personal setback and "Colored Sands", the band's 2013 album received extremely positive reviews: 8,5/10 Rock Hard (D), 9/10 Decibel (US), 10/10 Exclaim! (US), 8,2/10 Pitchfork (US), Album of the month in Terrorizer (UK), to name but a few! Furthermore, the band was nominated for a Juno award (Canada's Grammy equivalent) and supported the album with worldwide touring. Even today, the band is still performing tracks from "Obscura", which regularly fans asked for finally being reissued as its musical class and artistic vision has not worn off a bit! Considering the obvious demand and immense relevance of the album, "Obscura" now returns in a physical format.
