Nietzsche's Zarathustra created the mountain beneath him where he could only teach himself. He went down among the people in this infinite joy. But still he returned and plunged into the Gogolian depths of desperation. He left his work to the world, just as Gogol let the dead souls be lost among the flames. Joy and loneliness were both present on the mountain, where Zarathustra finally found nothing but himself.
