Detailed Description
A rare compilation album that is undeniably a vital chronicle from the jigsaw of underground Brazillian extreme music scene picture. While in the same year we had a much more widely acknowledged "Warfare Noise" compilation garnering acclaim as a landmark for spewing forth the earth with its host of infamous line-ups like Sarcofago and Mutilator, there appears to me a more critical statement behind the crude compilation of "Headthrashers (Live)" rather than a mere feel of product from the Cogumelo output. Was it the communal ethos behind them ABC Headthrashers or was it really the "No Drugs" campaign print on the back of the sleeves, as ironical as it sounds? This is no frigging Roadrunner and when the label calls itself "Fucker Records", it surely makes one ponder for a while. Anyway here's four extreme metal bands on the roster allotted with two songs on each quarter of the ebony wax, namely MX, Necromancia, Blasphemer and Cova. It seems like only the first two bands left any sizeable impact upon the Brazillian extreme metal scene at all (as you'll see later on), with the former releasing classics like "Simoniacal" on this label. One could see the prospect for the young MX with their ferocious "Fucking All The Angels" opener, with a riffage that should make out an improvised version of Slayer's "Black Magic", and a banshee scream that says so much pure coincidence. Spontaneous death thrash metal at its most rhythmic, of course without stumbling all over those ballistic D tremolos. Necromancia is heavier and less interested in the intricacy of complex thrash, but their lead is a dross of Slayer school of thought, crumbling the evil frames of "Christian Exterminator" and "Living In Meggido" by what sounds like squeaks. Of course everything on the first side of the disc here is Dream Theater compared to what's lurking in the underbelly of the other side. The dirty fuckers will surely foam in the mouth with the two bands on side B with Blasphemer and Cova. Blasphemer lives in the good old dreams of early Sodom, with a nifty "Hellish Fire Blast" to get this side rolling into hell. Simple drums, three evil chords, you know the drill. They could've put that "take off the bonks of the bastards, who think they're songs (sic) of Christ" into "To The End Of Jesus Christ" which fittingly closes their side. They couldn't mean it better! Up next is Cova.. total black metal. Suddenly the temperature rises three-fold in magnitude as these nasty perverts unleash hell anthems of "Death Metal" and "Fuga Para O Inferno" to what seems like rabid "crowds". They have a messy deliverance with their punk fuck chords and the vocals is a screaming bitch with groovy maniacal shrills evoking early Messiah. This is pure filth churned from the bowels of the underground and we're not even talking about Sarcofago here. So it's no big surprise why the two bands on this side can only live in the old, nostalgic cult memory. That's the way we like it to be isn't it? Anyway the album is said to have been recorded live at Municipal Theatre in Santo Andre on the 29th of January 1987 but it lacks a consistency in the audience noise and some accounts says this isnt a real live compilation but who cares. This is some dirty South American metal from 1987 and makes enough sensible noise to make it a must have for fans of this kind of metal. Check it out
