Originally formed in 1990 under the moniker Necropolis and then Macabre, MORTAL DECAY became mainstays of the vital New York / New Jersey death metal scene of the 1990s. The band released a trio of demos, solidifying their stature in the tape-trading underground, but a full-length album (and a change in vocalist) would be delayed until 1997. Nevertheless, what MORTAL DECAY released that year would become a beloved slab of sickness solely for the sickest fucks out there.
Titled Sickening Erotic Fanaticism, MORTAL DECAY’s debut album was truly a snapshot of the times. While black metal had taken the underground metal by storm by the mid ‘90s, death metal – particularly in North America – continued to be a dominant presence, and its diehards sought to push the envelope in both angular complexity and offensive extremity. MORTAL DECAY’s debut album was the perfect, time-locked synthesis of both. Totaling 55 minutes, Sickening Erotic Fanaticism speed through corridors both dizzying and disgusting, BRUTAL at every twisted turn, with tons of ignorant breakdowns whipping those diehards into a frothing frenzy. No more but definitely no less, this was pure & proud brutal DEATH METAL for brutal death metal people. Which is to say nothing of its utterly foul subject matter...
