A dark Heavy Metal adventure steeped in tales of horror and the macabre, created by Vincent Crowley—the mastermind behind the legendary Acheron. This is a must-have for fans of old-school Death Metal as well as devotees of Mercyful Fate and Candlemass.
Following the official end of Acheron in 2019, Crowley launched this new project under his own name, making it his primary creative focus. Joining him are former Acheron guitarists Art Taylor and Eric Stewart, bringing their experience into a sound that leans more heavily toward traditional Heavy Metal in the vein of King Diamond and Candlemass. Still, the doom-laden atmosphere of later-era Acheron lingers, giving the material a familiar yet evolved edge.
Expect an epic fusion of Heavy and Doom Metal, enriched by bursts of old-school Death Metal intensity. Crowley’s signature growling vocals guide the atmosphere, adding a sinister presence to the dynamic musical landscape. Melody plays a significant role here, both in the lead guitar work and the riffing—sometimes evoking solemn, funeral-like passages, other times propelling Death Metal forward with a majestic, deliberate stride.
The horror-themed lyrics intertwine seamlessly with the music, forming a cohesive artistic vision. While not drastically removed from the Acheron sound, this new chapter feels like both a continuation and a bold reinvention. Crowley has long demonstrated an affinity for slower, doom-inflected songwriting, and here he masterfully captures the essence of Heavy/Doom Metal, seasoning it with just enough Death Metal aggression to broaden its appeal beyond the Acheron faithful.
This is a confident venture into familiar yet unexplored territory—a realm Crowley knows intimately but approaches with fresh perspective. Notably, the satanic themes that once defined his work are now absent; instead, horror takes center stage. The result is introspective, atmospheric, and far less belligerent, as though Crowley has exorcised his demons after more than 35 years in the Metal underground.
With this release, Vincent Crowley presents something truly unique: Heavy Metal imbued with the vocal power and presence of his Acheron legacy—yet shaped into something we haven’t quite heard before.
