It was in the early autumn of 2018 that INVOCATION released The Mastery of the Unseen EP through IRON BONEHEAD. Although consisting of only two tracks, The Mastery of the Unseen was aptly titled, as the Chilean power-trio had made significant strides since their debut CDR in 2016 and the highly promising Seance Part. I demo released later that same year. While retaining the same sulfurous energy as their earlier works, this two-song salvo showcased a uniquely feral poise, setting the stage for their next release in early 2020: Attunement to Death, once again issued by IRON BONEHEAD.
With Attunement to Death, INVOCATION achieved a hellish harmony, deeply rooted in their classic South American diabolism. Yet, this mini-album also introduced an ever-deeper, ever-more-unique occult dimension to their sound, solidifying their reputation as masters of the genre.
Now, nearly a decade after their formation, INVOCATION finally unleash their highly anticipated full-length debut: The Archaic Sanctuary (Ritual Body Postures). At first glance, their sound remains true to its core: restless, roiling, and undeniably RIPPING. Seamlessly straddling the line between black metal and death metal, INVOCATION refuses to compromise or sit on the fence. However, where their previous mini-album exuded confidence, The Archaic Sanctuary utterly EXPLODES with it.
Tight yet loose, wild yet focused, and primal yet executed with finesse, INVOCATION's songwriting and delivery have reached formidable heights. Punishing both mind and body, their sound overwhelms yet mesmerizes, crafted in the ancient, occult cauldrons of metal. The album’s analog recording is a gritty masterpiece, drenched in sulfurous fire and sepulchral echoes, perfectly framing their journey through past, present, and future.
With The Archaic Sanctuary (Ritual Body Postures), INVOCATION has delivered the debut album they were destined to create. This release cements their place among Chilean metal luminaries such as UNAUSSPRECHLICHEN KULTEN, Force of Darkness, Slaughtbbath, and the sorely missed Hades Archer. It is a triumph of classic South American madness and a testament to their boundless potential.
