Veterans of countless successful releases, including a seminal split album ("Sol," 2013) that cemented their friendship and earned them the unconditioned esteem of atmospheric black metal aficionados, SPECTRAL LORE's sole member Ayloss and Jacob Buczarski from MARE COGNITUM join forces once again for another mystical journey through the stars. Monumental and daring in both length and scope, Wanderers: Astrology of the Nine is a thematic voyage through our solar system, anthropomorphizing celestial bodies into mythological figures that parallel our own humanity while exploring the science behind these mysterious formations.
"Inspired by Gustav Holst's The Planets suite, we continue the exploration we began with Sol many years ago," explain the artists. "We traverse outward from the sun to each planet, weaving fables that synthesize their distinct physical features with a mythical personhood representing these traits."
Graced with a wondrous cover painting by the inimitable Elijah Tamu, Wanderers: Astrology of the Nine represents a never-ending quest for mankind's cosmic origins, delivering a celestial and philosophical observation through the music of MARE COGNITUM and SPECTRAL LORE. The album strikes a perfect balance between progressive, furious black metal and moments of ecstatic melodic beauty.
"While we wish to capture the awe of the raw, natural beauty of our cosmic surroundings, we have also created our own cosmically inspired lore with each planet as our muse," say Ayloss and Buczarski. "Each track is a narrative that embodies our admiration for these cosmic entities—psychic manifestations conjured through our wonder at the majestic planetary system we call home."
