ASSASSIN - Interstellar Experience (12" LP on Yellow Vinyl)
Germany | Thrash
Detailed Description
As pioneers in Germany's early thrash metal scene, Assassin made a lasting impact with their first two albums, "The Upcoming Terror" (1987) and "Interstellar Experience" (1988). In April 2024, these iconic releases have been meticulously remastered by Patrick W. Engel and reissued on both CD and LP, bringing the raw power of these thrash classics back to life.
Reissuing Assassin's second full-length, "Interstellar Experience" (1988), alongside their debut, "The Upcoming Terror," is essential for capturing the rapid evolution of German thrash metal in the late 1980s.
With the addition of skilled drummer Frank Nellen and the return of guitarist Michael Hoffmann, who had been with the band during their early days as Satanica, the Düsseldorf-based group was poised for something extraordinary. They refined their lineup, honed new material, and kept their momentum going after the critical success of their debut.
When it came time to record their latest tracks, Assassin headed to Music Lab Studios in West Berlin, where they worked with legendary producer Harris Johns (Kreator, Voivod) to create what would become a defining album in Teutonic thrash metal. Even Scholli, who was absent from the band at the time and is now the last remaining veteran member, is in awe of what they accomplished.
"It was super aggressive, like I wish our first album had sounded," Scholli reflects. "To me, the opener 'Abstract War' is the best track, with its cool riffing and wicked drum beat. I also love the compact intensity of 'Baka' and the short but impactful cover of The Chantays' surf rock instrumental 'Pipeline.'"
"Interstellar Experience" also features standout tracks like "AGD," which included guest contributions from members of Kreator, Destruction, Sodom, and Deathrow, the playful "Junk Food," and the original bonus track "Strange World," all of which are now included in High Roller's meticulously crafted CD and vinyl reissues.
"I never imagined that both albums would have such an impact on the international metal community," Scholli admits. He worked closely with the label to ensure these new editions faithfully capture the spirit of an irreplaceable era.
Following the release of "Interstellar Experience," Assassin toured with Death Angel and Rumble Militia and began working on a third album. However, with the departure of co-founder and guitarist Dinko and the theft of their equipment, the band disbanded in 1989. They reunited in 2002 and have remained a steadfast force in the metal scene ever since.
