Inspired by hatred and some of the vilest and darkest metal of the '80s, Sweden's most demented twins, Hellbutcher and Tyrant, unleashed their only demo, "Unholy Death," spawned in hell in 1993. Although the tracks immortalized on this demo are poorly recorded and somewhat amateurishly performed, they already unmistakably bear the trademarks that would come to define the band's legacy. Hellbutcher's insane, utterly possessed screams, along with their songwriting talent and sense of melody, make this demo a must-have not only for loyal followers of the band but for anyone into early Sodom, early Bathory, or Treblinka.
Especially for this compilation, Nifelheim has unearthed several gems from their archives, making this release truly extraordinary. In addition to the four songs from the original demo tape, this compilation features four other original songs, two intros, and two covers (Mot?rhead and Bathory) from the same recording session. In total, "Unholy Death" consists of 12 tracks with a running time of almost 40 minutes.
The tracks were remixed from the original master tapes by Hellbutcher in 2024 and mastered by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony in February 2024. To enrich these reissues, an in-depth interview with Tyrant and Hellbutcher was conducted, highlighting the early days of the band up until their latest opus, "Envoy of Lucifer." You can read parts of this interview in the corresponding releases, which will also include many unseen pictures and materials from the band's history, presented in large, detailed booklets for each title.
