Detailed Description

Reissue of Kill’s second full-length album, originally released in 2007 by Total Holocaust Records. A relentless slab of raw Swedish black metal, now presented with updated cover art and an all-new layout by Bloody Productions.

With Inverted Funeral, Sweden’s Kill delivers a feral strike of unrepentant black metal that thrives on raw energy, traditional structures, and sheer contempt. Released through the ever-reliable Total Holocaust Records, this second full-length from the Gothenburg-based trio stands as a savage yet deliberate continuation of the band’s grim vision, firmly rooted in the legacy of Scandinavian black metal while refusing to compromise on filth or fury.

From the opening title track, Inverted Funeral lunges forward with blasting precision, its riffwork a blazing churn of tremolo-picked violence and hateful chord progressions. The production is coarse but effective—guitars seethe with a scalding, trebly rasp while the bass hums with a lo-fi throb that lends the whole affair a dirty, magnetic pull. Drums are buried just enough to retain that necro ambiance without falling into complete murk, while the vocals—sick, gnarled, and full of bile—slash through the mix like a rabid sermon.

What makes Kill compelling is their unflinching approach. There's no modern gloss, no atmospheric detours—just a cold, hateful adherence to the essence of black metal. Yet within that orthodoxy, Inverted Funeral finds variation through clever pacing. Tracks like "Morbid Curse" and "Summoning of Flames" mix grinding mid-paced passages with frenzied surges, and "Below" introduces unexpectedly memorable riffs that add sinister nuance without sacrificing the overall brutality.

Diehards of Craft, Bestial Mockery, and early Aura Noir will find familiar territory here, but Kill manage to retain their own voice—one that's steeped in the undead traditions of the genre but sharpened with a distinct sense of malice. Inverted Funeral doesn’t aim to innovate; it aims to decimate, and in doing so, proves that simplicity and savagery still go hand in hand when wielded with conviction.

Recommended for those who prefer their black metal nasty, no-frills, and caked in grave-dust.
