After the reunion of Mercyful Fate in '93, it was evident that the band was having a great time being back together, and this camaraderie resulted in the release of "Time," a pleasant surprise for fans. The album takes a straightforward approach, not aiming to replicate the grandeur of "Don't Break the Oath" but rather offering a simple heavy metal experience that effectively gets its message across. Hal Patino does an admirable job of filling in for Timi Hansen on bass, seamlessly fitting into the lineup.
However, the most significant surprise comes from Snowy Shaw, who had faced rumors about not playing the drums on the King Diamond album "The Eye" and missing the studio sessions for Fate's "In the Shadows." On "Time," fans finally get to hear Shaw's drumming, and it shines brilliantly. This album remains unique in the Diamond/Fate discography as the only one where he's featured, with the exception of the Mercyful Fate mini-live disc, "The Bell Witch."
Hank Shermann and Michael Denner deliver their trademark brilliant guitar work, and King Diamond, as always, gives an exceptional vocal performance. Standout tracks such as "Nightmare Be Thy Name," "Angel of Light," "Witch's Dance," "Time," and "Mirror" make "Time" a solid addition to the band's discography. It offers a satisfying, basic heavy metal experience that resonates with old-school headbangers and serves as a testament to the band's enduring talent and chemistry.
