"Im Schein trüben Kerzenlichts," also known by its alternate title Mit Toten Kerzenlicht, features tracks recorded between 2000 and 2008, with some originally composed in 1993 by Aerzengellus von Dunkelnacht for his former band, 13 Candles.
Horns deliver top-tier black metal with a raw, cryptic sound reminiscent of Mayhem’s classic era, influenced by Hellhammer and Bathory. The album also nods to classical composers like Bach, Wagner, and Beethoven, evident in tracks like "Der Kunst der Dunkelheit," which incorporates Bach’s "Der Kunst der Fugue" and Cathar ritual texts sung in ceremonial style.
Though some tracks feel slightly underdeveloped, the album’s cohesive mastering and atmosphere make it a standout for black metal enthusiasts.
