Cryptic Realms, who debuted with the “Eve of Fatality” EP last year, returns with five new tracks, including three songs and two brief instrumentals. They capture the essence of old-school death metal with authenticity, drawing on classic influences like Morgoth, Obituary, and Massacre, as well as newer ones like Bone Gnawer and The Skeletal. Their blend of Kam Lee and Mark Grewe’s vocal styles, along with traditional mid-paced riffs, creates a compelling and atmospheric sound. Fans of classic death metal will appreciate their growth from “Eve of Fatality” to “The Rotten is Alive.”
Astigarraga Thrower initially raised concerns with their Bolt Thrower references, but they quickly proved themselves with a solid set of tracks. Their music echoes Bolt Thrower’s style but also brings a unique touch, reminiscent of Benediction, Morgoth, Asphyx, and Grave. Surprisingly, their sound includes a Swedish death metal influence, with a classic guitar tone. Despite comparisons, their powerful and aggressive music, combined with excellent production and performance, makes their debut a standout entry into the death metal scene.
