Detailed Description

Jewel case CD with clear tray, 8-page booklet printed on 135gsm art paper.

In memory of Jon A. Bjerk, this reissue celebrates Helheim’s cult 1996 industrial black metal masterpiece, now accompanied by the rare 1994 Helheim and 1995 Walpurgisnatt demos. Featuring original cover art and new liner notes by Kristian “Zorn” Kjelsberg, this edition brings the band's early legacy back to life for devoted fans and new listeners alike.

Not to be confused with Helheim, the Viking/Black Metal band from Bergen, Vestland, and other similarly named groups, this Helheim often referred to themselves as The Helheim Society to distinguish their identity. Although this name wasn’t featured on their album covers until the 2012 reissue of Fenris, it appeared in fanzines, on their official P.O. Box address, and on their Myspace page.

Drawing inspiration from Norse mythology, Hel refers to both the realm of the dead and the goddess who rules over it. According to the Poetic Edda, Prose Edda, and later Skaldic poetry, Hel is Loki's daughter, guarding the underworld—often called Helheim in some Scandinavian languages.

The Fenris EP offers an intense sonic journey that masterfully fuses industrial ferocity with the raw aggression of black metal, setting a high standard in the genre. Helheim crafts a distinctive and haunting soundscape, driven by relentless drum programming, fierce riffs, and atmospheric synths. Each track flows seamlessly, creating a dark, immersive atmosphere that draws listeners in from start to finish.

The opening track, "Syndens Makt," ignites the EP with electrifying energy, delivering riffs that echo the ferocity of early black metal while incorporating an industrial edge that sharpens every note. The vocals carry an angst that adds depth without overshadowing the instrumentals, and just as the track peaks, it transitions into a full industrial segment, maintaining intensity without losing cohesion. Helheim bridges these stylistic shifts with skill, sustaining a compelling tension throughout.

Following "Syndens Makt," "Saga Morket" brings a slightly slower tempo but maintains intensity, pulling listeners into its dark, hypnotic groove. "Amok" then reclaims the speed and aggression with intricate, memorable riffs that linger long after the track ends. The EP concludes with "Fimbulwinter," delivering a final, intense soundscape that leaves listeners craving more.

Every aspect of Fenris showcases Helheim's innovative approach to black metal, making this EP both a collector's gem and a must-listen experience.
