One of the underground's best-kept secrets, MAJESTIC MASS made their public debut with the full-length Savage Empire of Death in 2018. Utterly captivated by the rockin' 'n' raucous noise these Danes so effortlessly created, HELTER SKELTER picked up the album for vinyl and cassette editions, forging a blood pact with the band for a series of releases. The first of these was the short and sweet Onwards maxi-single in 2019.
But as the world grappled with the plague, MAJESTIC MASS lay in wait, plotting their next strike. At long last, the result is unveiled: Destroys Minds and Rapes Souls—a title as provocative as the music itself.
If the Onwards maxi-single condensed the band's undeniable charm into a taut, two-song fury of fun and filth, the nearly half-hour Destroys Minds and Rapes Souls is a Bacchanalian revel you’ll never want to end…nor ever recover from. Thankfully, no drastic changes have been made—MAJESTIC MASS still sound like the bastard offspring of Barathrum and Death SS. However, the FUN is now amplified to all caps, while an undercurrent of EVIL grows even more threatening and addicting.
The seemingly innocuous organs take on a sleazy, sinister air and are pushed to the forefront, complementing a subtle shift in the lineup's stomp from doom to ancient hard rock. Meanwhile, the (hooded) vocalist's sharper annunciation enhances the anthemic quality of their songs, as their catchiness becomes utterly undeniable.
