Detailed Description
The Sorgh På Svarte Vingar Fløgh EP by DAWN, originally released in 1996, has been officially reissued in this stunning 2022 deluxe 10" vinyl edition by Cosmic Key Creations. Released under exclusive license from Century Media Records and the band, this pressing features carefully adapted artwork based on DAWN’s own vision, making it a must-have for collectors and fans alike.

The Sorgh på svarte vingar fløgh EP captures a pivotal moment in Dawn's evolution, offering a glimpse into the band’s shift in sound between their two celebrated full-lengths, Nær sólen gar niþer for evogher and Slaughtersun. With its blend of relentless black metal fury and a newfound melodic precision, this release stands as a testament to the band's creative progression.

The two original tracks are the heart of the EP, and they shine brightly. "Sorrow Flew on Black Wings" hits hard with its aggressive riffs and rasping vocals, delivering a raw yet intricate black metal experience. Its fast-paced energy keeps you hooked while maintaining a melodic backbone that feels uniquely Dawn. Meanwhile, "Soil of Dead Earth" brings a darker, more dissonant atmosphere, showcasing a level of depth that hints at the grander, more polished approach the band would later perfect on Slaughtersun. This track in particular stands out for its harshness, yet it’s precisely this edge that makes it compelling and memorable.

While some might miss the denser, more chaotic elements of their earlier work, the cleaner, sharper production here really allows the band’s evolving style to come through. Peter Tägtgren’s crisp production highlights every guitar layer, creating a powerful wall of sound that’s rich and full. The bass may take a backseat, but it’s a trade-off that serves the overall clarity and power of the EP.

Despite the inclusion of a brief intro and a cover of Infernäl Mäjesty’s “Night of the Living Dead,” the true draw is the original material. Fans of Slaughtersun will find much to appreciate here, as it shares that album’s sweeping, majestic feel while retaining some of the raw aggression of Dawn's earlier work.

Though it may lack the more complex, riff-heavy structures of their debut, Sorgh på svarte vingar fløgh showcases Dawn’s ability to evolve without losing their core identity. It's a must-listen for fans of melodic black metal, offering a refined yet ferocious sound that stands the test of time.
