Antropofagus proudly presents Origin, their highly anticipated fourth studio album, showcasing ten meticulously crafted compositions that redefine the boundaries of technical and brutal death metal. Recorded, engineered, and mixed at MK2 Recording Studio by drummer Davide Billia (Hour of Penance, Beheaded), and mastered at Hertz Studio by Wojtek Wieslawski (Vader, Behemoth, Decapitated), Origin promises a sonic experience of unparalleled intensity. The album's stunning cover art and layout were expertly designed by Stefano Mattioni, encapsulating the essence of the band's modern yet uncompromising approach to death metal.
Origin boasts an impressive lineup of guest appearances, including Mike Montaguti (Electrocution), Matt Sotelo (Decrepit Birth), and Dallas Toler-Wade (Narcotic Wasteland), adding dynamic layers to the band's already formidable sound. Antropofagus, formed in the late '90s, drew early inspiration from death metal pioneers such as Suffocation, Cannibal Corpse, and Deeds of Flesh. With previous releases like No Waste of Flesh (1999), Architecture of Lust (2012), and M.O.R.T.E. (2017), the band has established a legacy of relentless brutality and technical mastery.
Origin introduces the lineup of new vocalist Paolo Chiti, co-founder and guitarist Francesco "Meatgrinder" Montesanti, bassist Jacopo Rossi (Dark Lunacy), and drummer/producer Davide Billia. According to Montesanti, Origin represents the pinnacle of the band’s evolution:
"I'm incredibly satisfied with the entire album—from its structure to the production, which Davide curated at MK2 Studios. While the pandemic posed challenges, it gave us the time to meticulously refine every aspect of the tracks. This album is the result of a truly united effort, where each member contributed wholeheartedly to both the production and post-production phases. The result is a relentless, fast-paced album that never loses its momentum. Stefano Mattioni's artwork reflects our commitment to modernity while staying true to the essence of death metal. It’s our best visual representation yet."
Debuting vocalist and lyricist Paolo Chiti adds a fresh perspective to the band’s identity. "For the lyrics, I drew from a wide range of inspirations—Lovecraft's Necronomicon, Sumerian demonology, Egyptian mythology, and iconic films like The Exorcist and Hellraiser. Even modern works like The Void and Stranger Things influenced me. Wherever I found darkness, I used it as fuel. I’m immensely proud of my vocal performance and excited to share this material with the world. I hope my style resonates with longtime Antropofagus fans while also drawing in new listeners."
Origin is not just an album—it’s a testament to Antropofagus' evolution and resilience, a blend of ferocious technicality and unyielding intensity that is bound to leave a mark on the death metal landscape.
