Detailed Description
The tenth anniversary release of an experimental project of S. A. HYNNINEN, on Valentine's Day 2014, including the original MARCH 15 e.p. from 2004, and three new songs from 2010 and 2013. Although known for a wider audience as the founder and the main song writer of REVEREND BIZARRE, THE PURITAN and OPIUM WARLORDS, and the vocalist of SPIRITUS MORTIS, AZRAEL RISING and T?HTIPORTTI, Sami Albert 'Witchfinder' Hynninen has his roots in the most extreme, experimental, and avantgarde areas of music. The early 2004 was for Hynninen a return to one of his deepest passions, pure noise, in the form of MARCH 15; twenty years after his inaugural endeavours to record and produce eccentric sounds, and ten years since 'Maan liha', the noisecore masterpiece of his 1992 - 1998 band KLV. The original recording sessions of the two compositions - OUR LOVE BECOMES A FUNERAL PYRE and NO LOVE LOST; meant to constitute the MARCH 15 e.p. - took place on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2004, in the suffocative atmosphere of the northern Finnish town Tornio (birthplace of the legendary HC band TERVEET K?DET), with Vesa Karppinen of the local heavy metal band FALL OF THE IDOLS. The e.p. was not released until 2008, and even then only in Chile, as a poor quality CD version. Now, exactly 10 years after the original sessions, this material finally gets a release of its worth through Svart Records, remastered and expanded with a whole B-side of a new exclusive material, written and recorded in 2010 and 2013. Whereas side A offers a minimalist attack of total and remorseless noise and soul-freezing black ambient, the slightly easier side B reaches with CLAUSTROPHILIC LOVE OF THE WARM DARK PLACES WHERE THE MASTERS OF WAR MAKE THEIR HOME and THE LOVE THAT DARE NOT SPEAK ITS NAME - produced and performed with Jouni Leppikangas, engineerer and co-producer of OPIUM WARLORDS - towards mindscapes of extremely experimental and bleak pop music. However, and in order to avoid falling off the map of the original nihilism of MARCH 15, the album closes with LOVE UNDER WILL, a twisted modern art music soundtrack to a nightmarish horror of psychotic domestic hell, produced and performed with Joona Lukala, producer and mastering engineerer of myriad of bands. All of this material, even when taken from such a long timeline, comprises a solid and clear album, instead of a loose and tenuous compilation. The new material has been written and produced with the thought and purpose of fulfilling a circle of a theme album about the harsh reality of love, loss, isolation, and emptiness, with a coherent musical structure and continuity. What was started in 2004, came to an end in 2013, and is, now in 2014, offered to you. Among the works in the catalogue of its creator, MARCH 15 stands as one of his personal favourites. With OPIUM WARLORDS Hynninen may travel on the frontiers of extremity, but MARCH 15 takes its listener beyond all of them. File under noise, ambient, electronic music, minimalism, experimental pop music, modern music.
